Flashpacker

I have been labeled the flashpacker... not what you are thinking!!!! It's the fact that I am always dressed nicely, shop a bit and go out to nice-ish dinners (meaning I don't eat ramen noodles). I think the label is hysterical... and probably spot on. This flashpacker never pretended to be a real backpacker- I think we all knew that! The backpackers are smarter than they seem... they are on to me!

When I first got to Indy's I was in room three. It is a dorm room that houses 12 people (hmmm... some nights we had more, 15 being the record). My first few nights in the dorm I was the only girl!!! When I started working I switched to the girls dorm, which sleeps 8 of us... it's a bit quieter. Everyone knows though, my real room is the TV room. It has air-con and comfy bean bags. I most usually fall asleep in there and then move up to my room when the cleaner starts banging around at 6 am. It's a nice routine.

The hostel is pretty gross I have to say. I think you would all be shocked that I live in such conditions. We drink out of bowls because there are never any mugs (they don't even have cups). There are the same flying cockroaches we have in BK, all over the backyard (it's just concrete back open area). The showers often clog and usually the toilet paper has run out. The bathroom is steamy, humid and hot... all meaning the same thing... but it really is that bad. I often shower in the boys room. When Marc and Steve were around we would all shower at the same time and sing songs.. it was pretty funny.

Things I have learned from being at Indy's:

1) English girls are obsessed with hair straighteners
2) English guys understand that and actually know all bout the best brand and such because of it
3) The English and Irish REALLY do need their tea and are very particular about how it is made
4) Nackered- means tired, beat
5) Australian men for the most part are arrogant and lazy... oh, lets throw sleazy in their too!
6) the English and Irish put butter on everything
7) The above also love Bolognese sauce... I think that is their only Italian dish known
8) Can't think of anything else... but I know there is loads more!

John, the manager, got a lil fish bowl and three fish... he named one after me! hmmm... maybe it's time to leave?!
